Lamwaka Oliver was born in Gulu Town as the 7th child in the family. She grew up in a time of war that was tough for her and her family not knowing what would happen and if they were safe. Oliver studied until primary 6 but dropped out to get married in 2009. In 2010 she had her first child. She now has six children. Oliver joined Life Beads in 2013. At first, she came to Abaana’s Hope with a skill of making baby blankets but there wasn’t as much need for that in the area so after 4 months she was able to start work in Life Beads. This job has been providing her livelihood for the last 10 years. Life Beads has helped her pay school fees for her children, feed her family and take care of medical bills as well. Having a steady income helps her as a woman and a mom to not always have to depend on a man as the culture doesn’t expect the man to take care of his family. She can depend on herself when she needs to and that brings her joy. Through this work she has made friends and sisters in Christ as they are constantly discipled together.
