Lakot Jannet was born in Gulu Town as the second of 4 children and as the only girl. As she was growing up her mother separated from her father and left her at age 12. She grew up with her stepmother. Her father was willing to take care of her and even allow her to go to school but her stepmom wanted her to stay home and won the battles against her father in regard to her upbringing. Jannet was often insulted and bitten by her stepmom, and she was the caretaker for her siblings and was often not allowed to eat when food was provided for the family and watched as the others ate. In search of an easier life, she decided to get married. She now has 5 girls and 2 boys of her own. She had her first child followed by two sets of twins. Jannet is currently separated from her husband, and she is living single as the one caring for all the children. Jannet is so grateful that when she asked for a job opportunity at Life Beads that she was welcomed. This job has been so good for her as she has been able to meet the medical bills for her family, pay for her children to go to school and buy food as well. She has worked here for 1 year and that short time has changed so much about her life. Jannet is grateful to the ministry because it all comes from the Living Stone’s Church that preaches the true Gospel and provides a community to encourage her. The Bible Study each Monday devotion is something she looks forward to along with the encouragement to share prayer requests and pray together with the other woman. When she is at work, she feels so happy and free. Even if things are hard at home, she knows that when she gets to work, she will find her place for happiness and encouragement.
