Akoko Beatrice

Akoko Beatrice

AKOKO BEATRICE was born in Gulu Town and the 9th child born to her family. She lost 5 of her siblings early in life. Beatrice was only able to go to school until Primary 2 and stayed home after she dropped out of school as she was too small to do anything else. As she grew her father decided he wouldn’t pay for her to go to school anymore because girls would just spoil the money spent and didn’t seem to be worth the education. She became the one over all the house chores. She was married at age 15 and had three children before her husband left. She is unsure what happened to him. Once she realized he wasn’t coming back, she and her children moved back in with her family for 7 years. She tried to send her children to school but after struggling for many years for school fees she realized she needed another husband to help. Once remarried she gave birth to a set of twins. Her husband now takes care of her, their twins and the children from her previous marriage. Life is not easy and simple but when she was welcomed into Life Beads she became very happy. She is getting a lot of help and support through her job and is able to pay for her children to now go to school as well as buy the food they need. She is also proud of the help she is getting to learn the Word of God. Before she came to Abaana’s Hope to work at Life Beads she didn’t know much about the Bible or Jesus but now with a lot of teaching, counseling and encouragement she is learning and growing. She cannot read but she's been given an audio Bible where she can sit and listen to the Word of God in her private time. She is so thankful for the ministry and how it has changed her life.
