Katusiime Sylvia was born along the Kampala highway in a place called Kigumba. Her family was originally from the district of Mbale. She is the 11th child in her family and lost her mom when she was just 2 years old. She was raised by her brother. Sylvia studied in school until primary 7. After P7 she was married in 2012 because she thought life would get easier once she was married. She gave birth to her first child in 2013 and now has a total of three children. Just after having her first daughter, she came to the area of Abaana’s Hope. Because she is from a different district, she didn’t speak the local language but learned there was a bead making job and was happily accepted into Life Beads. She is now so happy she can pay for her children to go to school, provide food for her family and pay medical bills and feel that life is much better with the opportunity she has been given (and speak her native language, the local language and English). Sylvia says there is joy in her family because culturally the men don’t have to support their wives and children so her providing keeps the peace at home. She loves that the Word of God is a big part of Life Beads and that she is given good counsel and encouragement that help her daily. It has allowed her to meet people from the states that come and see the ministry as well. When her husband was still in the World (before he knew Christ), the Life Beads community provided her encouragement to pray for him and support him. She was able to share their hard times and have others pray for him and her family. He is now a Christ follower as well. Through the encouragement and discipleship given at Life Beads she has been that God truly listens to our prayers and works in our lives.
