An Unforgettable Day
The day of September 11, 2015, will go down in Abaana’s Hope history as one of the most epic moments ever. Words alone cannot describe the magnitude of what God has done in the lives of two ladies in our Women’s Refuge Center. We enrolled our first two widows in the summer of 2014. The goal was to take them from their practically homeless and desperate state, provide refuge, demonstrate the love and gospel of Christ, teach animal husbandry, and ultimately teach them to earn and save money in hopes of buying their own piece of land. That’s right, owning land! Something unheard of among Acholi women, even if you are rich and powerful. But with God all things are possible. Just over a year ago these ladies were unwanted by society. Chased away and abused wherever they found themselves, without family and without a permanent home. Today they talk about where they will place their homes, what they will plant, and which goat we are going to eat at the house warming. They talk about forgiving everyone that ever abused them. Grace talks about having a home to leave her boys, something she thought she could never do. Carolyn talks about opening her home to others, even those that refused shelter to her. See for yourselves.
The smile says it all.
Grace proudly leads the way to her 3 acres.
We stop at a corner and reflect. Grace says, “she never dreamed this day would really happen”. She laughs as she says, “I even have goats and pigs to bring with me”. What a privilege to remind her that God has only just begun!
Then we sang an Acholi praise song and gave thanks to God while dedicating the land to Him.
One last stop to pose at the tree where the negotiations were finalized.
After a splash of water, Carolyn was eager to lead us to her 1.5 acres.
At a shady rest stop, I reminded her of the day she approached me in tears and said there was no way she could ever save enough for her own land. We prayed that day for faith and strength. Today she fell on her knees again and simply praised God. A scene I will never forget.
No better time to pray and sing praise for God’s blessing.
Lots of tears, hugs, and laughter. “This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
If you support our family or Four Corners Ministries in any way, you have played a critical role in this day. We are grateful and God is worthy. All glory and honor and praise to HIM!
